We've had a week of simply glorious weather and spent some time at the zoo, where I took the photo above. Getting the picture of them together was hilarious, Andrew trying to put his arm around her and lovingly putting a choke hold around her neck, Elsbeth the ever moving target hopping around in circles and jumping off the curb and wandering over to see the birds. Elsbeth was mesmerized by the flamingos, standing silently watching them for a while, then saying definitively, "Chicken." We also got a little lesson about how silly flamingos are when they play, giving each other odd-looking piggy back rides. "Mommy, what are they doing?!" Aye yie yie. The Fiery One continues to chatter up a storm which I think has brightened up her little world. Being able to communicate many of her strongly-felt thoughts and desires has lead to much less screaming and lots of giant smiles and sweet hugs and kisses. Joy of joys! I make make it after all!
On the life and doings of my sweet babies, and anything else that catches my fancy.

You'll Be Glad To Know That Mrs. Mudge Has Bought Herself A New Set Of Teeth For The Occasion
And then I broke out in hives. This was me as I headed out the door, full of joy and anticipation of the next 24 hours.
You know what, I survived. Three women from the church (including Mischa) shared about their lives with the rest of the group and did a lovely job. I got to hang out and chat with a bunch of other women on topics ranging from Triskets to thyroids and not once did anyone suggest an outlet mall. Mischa, Dina (my other fabulous roomie pictured below) and I were all terrified of the giant Jesus door we had to walk through for every event. Were you supposed to hold his hand to open the door? Should you smile and say "Hi"? It was unsettling.
And the best moment of all was when Dina opened the envelope she won as a door prize.
Yes. Yes they did. That alone was worth the whole trip. And now, and a note even further removed from anything previously discussed, I'll share that I've recently been on a new recipe kick and have found myself profoundly impressed with the Pioneer Woman's food blog where she not only posts wonderful recipes but also takes zillions of the most beautiful pictures of the food all through the cooking process. The Pioneer Woman is cool. I kind of want to be the Pioneer Woman. Thus, I took a picture of the celery I was about to use in a stew.
Celery isn't supposed to do that, is it?

That sounds like some retreat. A Botox door prize AND a giant Jesus door? That is tough to beat.
I'm glad you had a good time.
And your kids are just adorable.
I was just looking at that little running water tub toy in a magazine yesterday. Does it work well and do your kids really like it? Katelyn is always disappointed when I turn off the faucet so that might solve that problem.
Yes! Both kids love the tub toy! Got one for each kid at Christmas. Now when Elsbeth complains that the water is off I just point to her little flowing fountain and she's content. :-)
I have the Pioneer Woman's Cookbook. I love reading it and looking at all the pictures. I can't believe little Andrew will be going to kindergarten and Elsbeth is such a big girl!
Whatever happened to us living next door to each other...oh how I wish our little ones knew each other and played often. Caleb and Andrew could build mountains together!! Caleb was designing a substation out of his toys yesterday to generate electricity. And is that really Elsbeth? My how she's grown. Where did our babies go???
I think you would make a lovely Pioneer Women. But please refrain from putting spaghetti on your head for a wig - I know how you are with wigs!
Love and miss you so very much!!!
I'm so proud of you for taking the plunge on the women's retreat, and Botox door prize, what in the world??? Have I mentioned that your hair is looking lovely these days (liked your style in the pre-retreat hives shot).
the Jesus door! you must have been at simpsonwood. it is startling, isn't it?
Botox!!!
That was me, by the way.

Because every self-respecting retreat going woman is in the market for Botox.
The picture of Andrew and Elsbeth is classic- what a pose for your little lady! They are precious and precocious (refrigerated- goodness!).
For someone scared to death of retreats it looks like you picked a mighty fine one to go to :). The prize was hilarious. Your little boy is just adorable too. I love his picture in the vegetarian post giving the thumbs down...too cute! Good luck on the vegetarian thing...it has always seemed like too much work to figure out what to eat!!
